Landspeeder: Explained! (with pictures!)

Landspeeder, implemented in Macromedia Director, looks like this. This is a real-time fly-through program that reads data files in and displays them on the fly, displaying 9 sectors of houses at a time (this is our paging scheme).

A Leam output matrix looks like this. The top left-hand corner cell (30x30 meters) of the land is represented by the first number in the first row, and so on. (We take out the decimal points and trailing zeroes before we read it into Landspeeder.)

The numbers in the output signify land use, as defined by http://www.epa.gov/mrlc/definitions.html, with an additional element: 24, describing "road."

Left, you can see an attempt to show different ages of houses - the newer ones are more see-thru!
How about making Landspeeder's houses more representational?

Landspeeder is running on the Beckman Cube's Syzygy Toolkit now.
This is a screen shot from a Windows PC. You can see the actual land that the 3-D world is supposed to replicate on the lower right side of the picture.
